About five years ago, SPECTOBA came up with DH initiative to restore the table system at our great College. Different Students had different experiences of the D/H. The students before the early 1990s had cafeteria system where each Table had the various food types on the Dining Tables with Table leaders and as culture, it is in these times when WOUNDING (A terminology for heaping one’s plate with food to the extent that those who came late to their assigned tables found little if no food at all). A terminology which stands until today were TCs refer to each other as WOUNDISTS.
Then a period when the D/H never had furniture. In these times the Administration installed barricades which guided the students from the entrance to the Serving points with the final stretch named CAPE OF GOOD HOPE. The serving points were designed like safety deposit boxes, the students wouldn’t see the faces of the Cooks who served the Food onto their plates, this turned out to be a safety measure for the Cooks in a way.
This period lasted for over 25 years until 2022 when the OBs began assembling Tables with Seats which brought back sanity in the DH.
A committee comprising of OBs; Oundo Odini, Dr. Gen. Kumanya, Philip Ochama, Kara Gibert, Akaku Pingping, Okitui Paul, Apungure ………… as the treasurer and headed by George Owiny was tasked to oversee the project.
This project was concluded in 2023 with repainting the DH. It was such a tough project to conclude since it was seen during the Leadership of three of the previous SPECTOBA Executive Committees. Finally, during the Home Coming of 2023 on the 19th of August 2023, led by the SPECTOBA Executive Committee headed by President Emeritus Felix Okluye, the Old Boys ranging from 1970s to 2021 were called to officially hand over the complete D/H Project of Fifty Dining Hall Tables with each Table Costing averagely One Million Shillings. The entire project was close to UGX. Sixty Million. This was a nostalgic feeling for many of the OBs who were present due to the fact that many of them during their time in Tororo College never saw a single table in the DH and enjoyed their hard accessed meal in the Houses of residences, especial on the days of the famous SPECIAL MEAL.

The future of St. Peter’s College Tororo belongs to all of us.
