Early morning by 7:30am on 19th of August 2023 on a very promising bright day, NYANGOLEANS began descending on the great Hill into the gates of Tororo College. This was in response to a great call by SPECTOBA to the OBs to turn up in large numbers to visit their college. OBs like Okw… Anthony Tweny (1988–90) were among the first to reach Tororo College; he drove from Lira City a 280Km journey late in the night determined to be on time. Indeed, it was a day that was going to be great.
The FOSIL of the day (a term used to describe OBs who were in Tororo College between 1941 to 1980) was Apollo Obbo, a retired Director of Bank of Uganda who treaded on Nyangole Hill from 1978 to 1977 for his A-Level. One of Makerere University Buses chauffeured OBs from Kampala to Tororo and back courtesy of Professor Kamata Pakoyo by then a Senior Lecturer in Muk at a minimal fee.
The school administration had planned for this day in as much as the OBs who had a mission to accomplish. A registration desk was organized with students who were very receptive had been organized managed by one of the OB Staff Teacher Mr. Osuban Richard who doubles also as a Deputy Head Master. Along side were enterprising students under their club who were showcasing their products for sale.
10:00am, was the planned time for assembling to kick start the program, which eventually started at 12:30pm due to excited OBs who were still anxiously visiting all spaces in the college. Finally, 12:30pm the program started full of excitement from the OBs, the Students and the Teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Champagne popping moment was when the Man that served longest in Tororo College for close to 30 years as Teacher and Head Master, UNCLE JAMES MUDICI, the legend walked in bringing the entire program to a standstill.
Who can continue speaking or remain seated when Uncle James, MJ walks in, you need to know that somehow, he is TORORO COLLEGE. For a long while many OBs have been sending shopping vouchers, supporting with his medical bills without setting their eyes on him, so you can imagine the excitement we had on seeing him.
Hon. Onapito Ekomoloit was the Chief OB of the day and Professor Pakoyo Kamba was the Key note Speaker. All OBs present were recognised from the Fosil, the Elders, TATA Factory led by their commander Edmond Owor were well represented including the Nyongo OBs as recent as 2022. As a norm the School Administration planned for a WOUDOMETER session, (a terminology in TC that is used for a meal time) and sure enough the portions being served were for true WOUNDISTS. This was followed by an official tour of the school campus which displayed the appalling and degenerated state of the school infrastructure.
A conversation by the OBs on need to revamp the school immediately began and during the handover session of the DH Project at around 4:00pm, the OBs were already charged and determined to muscle up for the rehabilitation of the infrastructure as such unanimously agreeing that this was the next task top on the SPECTOBA list of to do projects.
We proceeded to the Field for Football games between The OBs and Staff followed by OBs and Students. The day was well spent and above all rejuvenating. Time to leave was the reality check on us at about 6:30pm with some of the TCs travelling back to their homes while others proceeded to the famous historical and present locations in Tororo Municipality to entertain themselves together with the Staff teachers until dawn.
This was a very successful home coming tripling the numbers that had ever gone to Tororo College for homecoming, the names of the OBs who did register with the school on that day are listed. The greatest achievement of this Home Coming was the eventual mobilization of the OBs for the Fundraising to Rehabilitate St. Peter’s College Tororo with a launch of a Fundraising Dinner of 20th June 2024, with a theme of Making Tororo College great again.
